Whispers from above. Some times life gets the best of us and we get caught up in the business of it. I often find myself making everything else a priority but avoiding the most important of all to spend time with the Lord. I often think that settling for a church message or a podcast will be sufficient enough to satisfy my heart hearing from the Lord. Although this is good, it is not enough when you are in a relationship with Him. As when two people are married they cannot fully get to know each other by speaking to each other only once a week or once a month. Same is with our relationship with God.

When I become content with others teaching me about God it is easier to not spend time reading the word of God on my own time. This really takes away from me hearing the Lord daily. Because the word of God is alive and speaks to us daily. The cycle of leaving Him at the end of my "To Do List" catches up with my heart and the consequence is an unsettled heart that is anxious over anything. This past week I tried to get myself to read some more of the bible and this time I asked the Lord to give me hunger for his word. It was not a fancy elongated prayer just a simple plead for help. As He is faithful to answer He began producing a hunger once again for His word.

I read the passage of Elijah and the miracles that God performed through Him to show who was the true God of Israel by sending fire from Heaven. I was fascinated once again with His precious word and how it births faith into my inner man that God always want to show that He is the true God is our lives and to anyone who is in doubt. I then read about how Elijah after performing such miracle through God fled from Jezebel who wanted to kill him. I thought about the highs and lows that we experience with God in our lives. Sometimes He works in great ways in our lives but then we are faced with a new trial and respond by fleeing and not seeking His help. Elijah was filled with fear and fled and was wanting to die when God spoke to him. 1 Kings 19:11-12,"And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice." God was not in the great wind, a great earthquake, nor a great fire, but in a still small voice. God uses His word to speak to our lives. The more we hear or read His word the more likelihood that He will speak to your heart about the matters that concern us. We don't have to have a big production with God. He is interested in revealing Himself to us. Don't settle for anything else that will take the time to speak to Him and you hearing from Him. It can be a simple prayer and you can possibly be surprised that He will speak to your heart with a gentle voice in your heart that brings you peace.
